Whitmore Doolittle is 3rd from the left in the photo.

"My g-g-g-grandfather's name was Whitemore Doolittle. He served in the 64th Illinois Infantry. I believe he enlisted in 1864. I know he served under General Fuller who he speaks of in his letters.

My g-g-g-grandfather served as a nurse in the field hospitals. In his letters he speaks of the horrors he saw, and of the dying and wounded. In some letters he gives death counts. His son, Edwin, was enlisted in the same regiment. My g-g-g-grandfather talks about his constant worry for him, he says that with every battle he expects to hear that his son has been shot. They both survived the war."
