George Columbus Harding enlisted in Hidalgo, IL and died March 13, 1863 at Vicksburg, MI, from typhoid fever. He and first cousin Pyrrhus were engaged in digging Gen. Grant's big ditch opposite Vicksburg. A year after the war was over, Pyrrhus married George's widow. George is buried in the Aten Cemetery in Hidalgo, IL.
