Abraham Maple Company K, 47th Illinois Volunteer Infantry

In 1832 Abraham Maple came to Peoria County, Illinois with his parents, Isaac and Marh (Jones) Maple, from ohio and Abraham lived there until he died, except for 24 years in Missouri, where, in 1872, grasshoppers ruined his crops so he moved back to Illinois. He enlisted with Company K, 47th Illinois Infantry (volunteer) on March 3, 1865 in Pekin, Illinois, under Captain J. J. Rose. He is honorably discharged in Demopolis, Alabama on January 21, 1866. He was a member of the Grand Army of the Republic, post 327, Adrian, Missouri, and a member of the Free Masons for 50 years and the Baptist Church for 60 years. He owned and operated a Sawmill and Grismill in Mapleton, Illinois. The following was recited at his funeral, from 2 Timothy 4:7: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith."
