James McGowan

31st Illinois Volunteer Infantry

On January 5, 1864, James McGowan re-enlisted at the town of Big Black, Mississippi. His papers were signd by Captain Geo. W. Goddard and listed him as 5' 7" tall, light complexion, with grey eyes and light colored hair. The papers were witnessed by Captain G. W. Sanders. Other papers inicated he was with Hdqtrs. 2nd Corp in Chattanooga, Tennessee on 7 Nov 1864. His muster cards indicate that he enlisted in Vienna in 1861. In 1863 he was working in a regimental hospital. On the 1865 muster cards, it showed the 31st being in Louisville, Kentucky.
