Lt. Colonel Daniel Lindley Miles

47th Illinois Volunteer Infantry

Daniel Lindley Miles was born in Athens, Ohio in 1827 but spent most of his adult life in Washington, Illinois. He was killed in the battle at Farmington, Mississippi on May 9, 1862. He is buried in Washington, along with his brother, Major Joseph Buckminster Miles, also of the 47th Illinois, and who was wounded at Lake chicot, Arkansas, but survived to die at old age.
