Marshall Henry Moon born April 10, 1840 in Granger, Medina Co., Ohio, first son of David and Sarah Mossman Moon of Pittsford, VT. Marshall had siblings named Julia A., Mary J., Lois A., Clarinda, William Mark and Frank D. Moon.

In 1860 Marshall, age 19, was a farmer and working on the James Beardsley farm. He married Anna E. Allen, of New York, on September 10, 1861, in Morris, Illinois.

Marshall Moon enlisted for the Civil War at age 23 in Ottawa, IL on 24 Aug 1861 as a Private. He was promoted to Full Sergeant and served in IL commission 3rd Cav. Reg. RA. He became a First Lt. in Co. B-4 Illinois Cav., Co. H, 3 U.S.C. Cav. from March 22, 1864 to February 15, 1865. He was wounded July 29, 1862 in "Hatch's Bottom." He was wounded a second time, severely, in the left breast at "Bayou Boeuf, Arkansas" on December 13, 1863. he later was on leave of absence in Vicksburg, MS, November 18, 1864, suffering from chronic anemia and fever. He was discharged April 13, 1865. According to his Civil War records, he was sick most of the rest of his life from his war wounds. He more than likely died from lead poisoning from the bullets still in his body.

Marshall died October 23, 1873 at the age of 33 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery in Morris, Illinois. Date of burial was 10/25/1873, Block 3, Lot 6. He is buried in a lot owned by his father, David Moon.

Marshall and Anna had two children born in Mazon, IL: Charles Henry on Oct. 10, 1865 and daughter Gentilhska (Jentie) L. Moon on Dec. 2, 1868. By 1870, Marshall now 30 years old, was a farmer, owning his own farm of 2,500 acres in Stilwell, Johnson Co., KS.

Marshall's wife Anna was denied a pension because she could not adequately prove Marshall died from his war wounds. His doctor wrote a detailed letter, but it did not seem to help.
