Christian Murphy/Amaziah Murphy Company G, 123rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry

Christian Murphy (left) was born May 10, 1844 in Clark County, Illinois and died February 12, 1913 in Anna, Illinois. He married Diane Euphemia Clark on April 15, 1869 in Clark County, Illinois. Amaziah Murphy (right) was born November 20, 1845 in Clark County, Illinois and died August 8, 1917 in Clark County, Illinois. He married Missouri Ellen Phillips September 8, 1867. The brothers enlisted August 14, 1862 at Martinsville, Illinois with Company G of the 123rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. "Old Pat" and "Young Pat", as the brothers were known in the army, fought together in the Civil War battles of Perryville and Chickamauga. Amaziah was noted for successful foraging and there was a saying in his company, "If there's food in the country, it'll be in the Murphy mess." Amaziah Murphy's records indicated that when he mustered-out, his spencer rifle and accoutrements were retained by him. It also appears that Amaziah was with the 123rd Regiment Illinois Mtd.
