SAMUEL L. SHELLENBERGER

1st Lieutenant Samuel L. Shellenberger was from Mackinaw, Tazewell County, Illinois. He was mustered in as a Sergeant in Company B, 3rd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry in August 1861. A promotion to 1st Lieutenant was attained in October 1862. Most operations of the 3rd Cavalry were in Missouri, Arkansas, and Mississippi losing several men. The 3rd Cavalry was consolidated and 1st Lieutenant Shellenberger was commanding Company F in October 1862. He mustered out on October 10, 1865 as a Captain.
