Elisha Gilbert Ward Stafford (Hiram3, Robertson2, John1) was born June 10,1839 in Stokes County, North Carolina, and died May 05, 1915 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois11. He married Mary Ann Sammons December 31, 1863 in Ursa, Adams County, Illinois. She was born May 11, 1842, and died October 07, 1913 in Quincy, Adams County, Illinois. Notes for Elisha Gilbert Ward Stafford: Elisha Ward Stafford served as third sargent in Co. I, 155th regiment of the Illinois Infantry during the Civil War. On March 2, 1865, Regiment 904 was strong moved to Tullahoma, Tennessee, through Louisville and Nashville, where they reported to General Milroy. The company was assigned to the command of Brevet Brigadier General Dudley and, on June 17, was divided into detachments of twenty or thirty men. The detachments were assigned guard duty on the Nashville and Chattanooga Railroad and occupied the block houses from Nasville to Duck River, a distance of 50 miles. On September 4, 1865, the Regiment was mustered out of service, and moved to Camp Butler where it received final pay and was discharged.
