John W. Swegle (29 Oct 1833-17 Dec 1871) was a private/corporal in Company D, 103rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry.

John Swegle was a brother of my Grandfather Jacob and my data is from family records and his military records.

John Wesley Swegle was born 1833 in Morris County, New Jersey, the son of Daniel and Elizabeth (Tharp) Swegle. The family moved to Fairview, Fulton County, Illinois in 1834.

John enlisted 13 Aug 1862 at Fairview in Co. D, 103rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal on 21 June 1864.

He married Frances Ellen Housholder on 9 Jan 1868 at Knoxville, Knox County, Illinois. They had two children -- Ruth and Elizabeth.

They were living on a farm at Kumler, McLean County, Illinois, when he died on 17 Dec 1871. The cause of death is listed as Exposure while in service. The disease was Diabetes and Flux (severe diarrhea). He is buried at the Lyons Cemetery in Fulton County, Illinois.
